MacDonald Highlands is a small, guard gated golf course community. It is located south of Green Valley Ranch, in the foothills of the McCullough Mountains. Custom homes and semi-custom homes are available with condominiums and townhomes soon to be built. Less than 1,000 residences overall are scheduled be built including homes on 570 custom home lots. The first homes completed here were built in 1999. Home sizes range from 2,576 to 17,761 sq. ft.

Custom homes and lots are available in 10 separate and distinct neighborhoods. Lots here, for custom homes have been reduced substantially with view lots starting at around $300,000. Lot sizes usually range from 1/2 acre up. The resale custom homes are generally well over one million dollars.

There are 3 semi-custom home neighborhoods finished here. There are presently no production home builders active in MacDonald Highlands Many custom homes have been built and are still being constructed. Lots are also available at some substantial discounts from previous prices. There have been four resales here over the six months, as of August 18, 2010, ranging from $490,000 to $1,300,000. There are several custom homes under construction.

The Dragonridge Golf Course and Country Club is located at MacDonald Highlands. Amenities include a 27,000 sq. ft. clubhouse with formal dinning room and lounge, separate mixed grill and lounge, swimming pool, golf pro shop and 10,000 sq. ft ballroom. A new14,000 sq. ft. tennis and athletic center has recently opened. It offers child care, Internet cafe, locker rooms, sauna, steam and Jacuzzi. There are 5 new tennis courts, on with stadium seating. Both golf and social memberships are available. another new addition is the Jack Nicklaus Academy of Golf. The elevation at MacDonald Highlands ranges from 2,163 ft. to 2,400 ft. above sea level.
